Resetting the maintenance count (LJ4100 printers) when the “Perform Printer Maintenance” message appears on the printers LCD panel

While turning the printer on hold down the item and value keys on the printer on their left hand sides. After a few seconds “resetting maintenance count” will appear on the LCD. Release the buttons and allow the printer to warm up as usual and the maintenance count will be reset to zero.

Replacing the fuser

Tools required: Phillips screwdriver

                     Small flat blade screwdriver

The fuser is located at the rear of the printer. Be sure to let the fuser cool down for 15 minutes before removing. Always remove the mains cable before changing the fuser.

1. If a duplexer (for double sided printing) is fitted remove it by lifting slightly up and then pulling straight back until it is clear of the printer.

2. If a duplexer is not fitted, remove the dust cover. (Photo no.1).

3. Remove the rear cover/output tray (Photo no. 2), by locating a hinge pin on either side and gently prying it out from the black plastic fuser chassis.

4. Move the 2 blue plastic retaining clips to the unlocked position (see arrow embossed on clips). (Photo no. 3)

5. Pull the fuser assembly straight out of the printer.

6. Slide the new fuser into position and move the blue retaining clips to the locked position. Replace the rear cover/output tray/duplexer.

Replacing the tray 1 (multipurpose tray) pick up roller and separation pad

1. Open the toner lid and tray 1.

2. Remove the white plastic cover above the pickup roller by pulling straight out (Photo no.4), revealing all of the pick up roller.

3. Remove the pick up roller by inserting the flat bladed screwdriver into the blue housing and twisting it slightly until you hear a click. The blue clip pops open and this then allows you to lift the pick up roller straight up and off its shaft. If you look inside the roller you will see that there is a short metal pin which fits in the hole in that shaft. (Photo no.5)

5. insert the blade of the screwdriver where shown (Photo no. 4) and then twist slightly, the separation pad will come off its black supporting arm. Do not remove the three springs which are visible.

6. To fit the new separation pad locate it in position above its black plastic support arm and then apply gentle downward pressure until you hear it click into place. Be sure that both sides have clicked into place and that the pad is level and not raised on one side. Fit the new pickup roller ensuring that the metal locating pin is inserted in the hole in the metal shaft and click shut the blue latch.

7. Fit the new pickup roller and click shut the blue retaining clip.

Fitting New Tray 2/3 pickup and Feed Rollers

1. There are 2 paper feed rollers (grey roller with blue plastic inner section), one located in the paper drawer and one in the main body of the printer. Remove them from their metal axles by holding out the small retaining clip in the center of the blue plastic section and sliding from the shaft. When refitting be sure that the rollers have gone fully on and click into place (Photo no. 6/7).

2. To change the pick up rollers (4 semi circular black/grey rubber rollers with white plastic centers on a single shaft) you will find it easier to gain access if you tip the printer up on its left hand side.

3. The entire shaft with the rollers fitted can be replaced as a complete unit but we recommend that you replace each roller individually on the shaft to avoid having to remove the small return spring attached to the shaft which is easily lost. Remove each roller by pressing the white retaining clip(Photo no. 8) and pulling from the shaft. Press each new roller into place making sure you hear a click as the roller is fully seated.
